The drop-out type surge arrester is an innovative and essential lightning protection device for the protection of electrical distribution systems. This type of overvoltage protector is specifically mounted on an ejector after modification of a zinc oxyde protector of the distribution type.
Product Description
The Drop-Out Type Surge Arrester is a kind of lightning arrester which is skilfully installed on the drop-type mechanism after reinstalling the Distribution Type Zinc Oxide Surge Arrester.When the power is not cut off, the arrester can be tested, repaired and replaced with the help of the load-break operating hook-stick tool. This not only ensures the smooth running of the line, but also reduces the work intensity and time of the power maintainers. Particularly suitable for unsuitable locations such as communications, airports, railway stations, hospitals, etc.
Operating conditions
Ambient air temperature within the range of -40℃ to +40℃;.
Altitude above sea level not exceeding 2,000m;
The frequency of the AC power supply must be 50Hz or 60Hz;
Power frequency voltage applied continuously between the terminals of the arrester not exceeding its continuous operating voltage;
Maximum wind speed not exceeding 35m/s;
Earthquake intensity not exceeding 7 degrees.
Installation instructions for drop-out surge arresters
Compliance with the rated voltage: Ensure that the arrester is installed within the rated voltage of both the arrester system and the equipment wiring.
Check before installation: Check for tightness and flexibility between the arrester and the drop-out mechanism to ensure good contact.
Adjustment method: Adjust the arrester by turning it on the copper contact (with pull ring). Ensure that the sub-gate tension is between 6-10kg. With the copper contact pull ring facing outwards, tighten the lower nut and turn.
Installation angle: Install the arrester at an angle of 15-30 degrees from the vertical. Maintain a minimum distance of 200mm from the vertical line and a minimum of 350mm between phases.
Terminal connection: Ensure that the high voltage cable is connected to the top terminal of the arrester body. The lower terminal must be securely connected and not reversed.
Operational notes: Before and after commissioning of the arrester, observe the instructions for the power distribution arrester.
Maintenance and replacement: If the arrester needs to be repaired or replaced, this can be done without interrupting the power supply. Use an isolating gate lock bar on the arrester unit for safe operation, similar to replacing a drop-out fuse tube.
Operation after fall: After the arrester unit has fallen, replace it to restore system protection. The fall mechanism itself does not need to be replaced. Our company provides arrester units for such replacements.
Our drop-out surge arresters are designed with safety at the forefront. Technicians can replace the arrester from the ground using a hot stick or telescopic pole, minimising the risk of injury during maintenance.
Our drop-out type surge arresters provide a clear visual indication of failure. The arrester only drops out when it’s expired, ensuring that it doesn’t drop out during every lightning storm, reducing unnecessary replacements.
In the event of a malfunction or sensitive earth fault (SEF), our drop-out type surge arresters can be easily and safely removed using a hot stick or telescopic pole. This feature significantly reduces the time and effort required for troubleshooting and maintenance.
Improve response times and customer satisfaction with our drop-out type surge arrester. The design allows for quick and easy replacement, reducing replacement time from minutes or hours to seconds.
Studies show that drop-out type surge arresters are four times more likely to be replaced than fixed types. This increased likelihood of replacement ensures that your system remains protected and operational with minimal downtime.
Applications
Drop Out Type Surge Arresters, also known as Drop Out Metal Oxide Surge Arresters, are designed to provide a high level of protection in electrical systems. Here are some applications for Drop Out Type Surge Arresters:
Power transmission and substation systems: Used in power transmission and substation systems of 35kV and below, they provide reliable protection against surges caused by lightning and switching operations.
Oilfield and industrial applications: Widely used in oil fields such as Daqing, Changqing, Dagang, Shengli and Jianghan, as well as in transmission and distribution systems, these arresters are favoured for their reliable protection performance and ease of maintenance and overhaul.
Prevention of system faults: In the event of a single-phase fault, the arresters quickly rotate and fall down to stop operation and prevent further damage to the system.
