The Surge Arrester is the most advanced surge protector in the world.lt’s core element is the Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV).Massive productions of Surge Arrester (MOA), either with porcelain or polymeric housing, are suitable in the systems of power generation, power transmission, power transformation and power distribution under AC 220kV and below.

Product Description

Field of application

The MOAs are suitable for use in systems for generating, transmitting, transforming and distributing power under 220 kV AC and lower. They are mainly used to keep the amplitude of lighting impulse withstand voltage and switching impulse withstand voltage at the prescribed level.

Operating principle

The Surge Arrester is the most advanced overvoltage protection device in the world, with the Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) as its core element.

Under the circumstance of normal operating voltage, the current through the surge arrester is only on microampere degree. When an overvoltage occurs, the excellent non-linear characteristic of the surge arrester will cause the current through the surge arrester to increase to several thousand amperes. And the surge arrester will be under the circulating state and release the overvoltage energy so as to protect the power transmission equipment from the damage caused by the overvoltage.

Applications

Polymeric surge arresters are used in a wide variety of applications to protect electrical systems from transient overvoltages. Here are some common applications where these arresters play a vital role:

Power distribution networks: They are used to protect power distribution systems from voltage surges caused by lightning strikes and switching operations.

Transmission lines: Polymeric surge arresters are installed along high-voltage transmission lines to protect the system against surges from various sources.

Substations: Used in substations to protect transformers, circuit breakers and other critical equipment from damage caused by voltage surges.

Industrial plants: Factories and industrial plants rely on these arresters to protect machinery and control systems from electrical disturbances.

Product advantages

Polymeric surge arresters offer a number of advantages that make them effective in protecting electrical systems from surge voltages:

Material flexibility: Polymeric Surge Arresters use a silicone rubber housing that provides flexibility and can be moulded into various shapes and sizes to suit different installation requirements.

Moisture resistance: The polymer body is designed to repel water, reducing the risk of moisture-related deterioration compared to porcelain bodies which are prone to water ingress.

Lightweight: Polymer traps are more lightweight than ceramic or metal traps, simplifying installation and reducing the need for structural support.
